What I Do

  • I counsel individuals, couples and families and offer consultation/supervision to other relationship counsellors.
  • I mentor creative writers and help them to tell their stories.
  • I work with couples, individuals and families where Asperger’s is an issue.
  • I run creative groups and training events with colleagues at Bristol Relationships and with Mary Everett.

Creative therapy can help to: improve sleep and reduce bad dreams | share ideas and stories through pictures and writing | find and share coping strategies | build upon hope for the future | learn to soothe yourself | become bolder | improve family relations | re-find a sense of engagement with community and politics | re-find a sense of fun and satisfaction |

About Barbara: I worked for the BBC in Southampton and radio and newspapers in London and abroad for many years before becoming a Relate counsellor in 1994.  I have a diploma in Family Counselling and qualifications in relationship counselling and supervision. After taking a master’s degree in creative writing in 2000, I went on to teach undergraduates part time for six years at Bath Spa University. I’ve written four books and my stories have been played on BBC radio. I am Chair of Lapidus International, the therapeutic writing organisation, www.lapidus.org.uk
